How to Tie a Cavendish Knot

Cavendish Knot Tying Steps

  1. Begin with the wide end on your right side.
  2. Cross the wide end over the narrow end to the left.
  3. Take the wide end behind the narrow end to the right.
  4. Take the wide end across the front of the tie to the left.
  5. Take the wide end up and through the neck loop.
  6. Take the wide end down in front of the knot and pass it behind to the left.
  7. Bring the wide end around in front of the knot and up through the neck loop.
  8. Bring the wide end down through the knot in front.
  9. Trying to keep the dimple, carefully tighten to adjust.

About the Cavendish Knot

The Cavendish Knot is named for the laboratory where it was created. Two scientists put their brilliant minds together and gave birth to a Windsor-esque knot that works great for longer ties. The lab is named after the British chemist and physicist Henry Cavendish. Henry never knew that the Cavendish Knot existed. Mind blown.
